Is getting a degree in Information Systems Management a good way to go?

compared to accounting, econ, finance, etc

I graduated from a school that offered a CIS degree combined with a MCSE. Shortly after I graduated they canceled that program and switched to MIS.

The reason schools like MIS is that management principles remain very static. If they teach CIS they have to make course relevant to current operating systems and thes are changing so rapidly it is impossible for them to keep up.

Sadly most management positons I have seen are gained by technical people who hang around for a few years and get promoted into management positions. The only exception I have seen is project planners seems to be able to bypass knowing the technical side.

I would suggest that you stick with the technical side and skip MIS unless this appeals to you more.
